A gift of € 33 excluding VAT costs € 39.93 at the till. That keeps it just under the € 40 that Belgian social security exempts at year-end and on other recognised occasions. For your employee it is free of social contributions and tax.
And because it is a physical gift, you recover the VAT. On a gift voucher you cannot. So the same budget buys roughly a fifth more gift.
